Smokey BBQ Sauce

This recipe gets its rich taste from sweet smoked paprika. I love this sauce! It’s great for basting baby back ribs, chicken….etc.

Makes: 8 servings

1 Tbsp olive oil

1 onion, finely chopped

1 garlic clove, crushed

2 cups ketchup

3 Tbsp packed light brown sugar

1 Tbsp cider vinegar

1 Tbsp molasses

1 tsp chili powder

1 tsp dry mustard

1/2 tsp sweet smoked paprika

1/4 tsp ground ginger

1/8 tsp cayenne

Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic; cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, 3 – 4 minutes. Add the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, molasses, chili powder, dry mustard,paprika, ginger, and cayenne; bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer until thickened, 10 – 12 minutes.
